SELECT & BETTER:
- Best appearance.
- Includes all clear selected for uniformity of color.
- Allows slight variation in the natural sapwood color.
- Sticker stain is a defect.
- Pin knots allowed.
- Allows for a sound knot of less than 1/8” in diameter or less.
- Mineral streaks of less than 1/8” X 4”.
- No checks, no stains or splits.
- Length 16” – 72” and a product of the run.
- Average length greater than 26”.
PREMIST:
- Variegated appearance.
- Cut to include all that is permitted in the Sel/Btr grade but also that which is not uniform for color.
- Excellent appearance.
- Allows for a sound knot of less than 1/8” in diameter or less.
- Allows all color variations.
- Sticker stain is a defect.
- No splits, holes or voids.
- Length 12”-72” and product of the run*.
- Average length approximately 40”.
COLONIAL:
- Variegated appearance.
- Includes all clear and select grade that is not uniform for color as well as all color variations, mineral streaks and Rustic characteristics of the species.
- Sticker stain is a defect.
- Length 12” – 72 “ and product of the run.
- Average length greater than 24”.
*** Note the average length of for the grade will vary form pallet to pallet. However as mentioned above all developing lengths in the run of production are included. To maximize on grade and minimize the cost of handling it is also to the advantage of the manufacturer to produce and ship the longest lengths possible for each grade.
