Northern White Birch is the principal specie on which Mistral Hardwood Floor founded its reputation. The most abundant hardwood in the Saquenay-lac-Jean region is White Birch. The durability of our hardwood flooring is primarily because of the unique density of the fibers of the wood that make up these slow growing trees. The sapwood is paper white and heartwood is a soft tan brown. Mistral Hardwood Floor offers this specie in the traditional white Select and Better grade and the more popular Colonial grade which is a natural mix of the sap and heartwood. With its consistency in grain , the colonial grade takes a stain very uniformlyand is available in a wide range of colors.
Standard grading allowance: maximum of 5% below the actual grade.
Select & Better
- Best appearance
- Includes all clear selected for uniformity of color
- Allows slight variation in the natural sapwood color
- Sticker stain is a defect
- Pin knots allowed
- Allows for a sound knot of less than 1/8" in diameter or less
- Mineral streaks of less than 1/8" x 4"
- No checks, no stains or splits
- Length: 16" - 72" and a product of the run*
- Average length approximately 26"
Mill run
- Variegated appearance
- Includes all clear and select and better grade as well as that which is not uniform for color in tradition grade and mineral streaks and Rustic qualities of the species.
- Sticker stain is a defect
- Allows sound knots of 1-1/2" in diameter and all other knot holes, worm holes, checks, splits, and other imperfections that are filled and finished
- No splits, holes or voids permitted
- Length 12" - 72" and product of the run*
- Average length approximately 30 "
Colonial
- Variegated appearance.
- Includes all clear and select grade that is not uniform for color as well as all color variations, mineral streaks and Rustic characteristics of the species
- Sticker stain is a defect
- Allows sound knots of 1-1/2" in diameter and all other knot holes, worm holes, checks, splits, and other imperfections that are filled and finished
- No splits, holes or voids permitted
- Length 12" - 72" and product of the run*
- Average length approximately 24"
*Note: the average length of the grade will vary from pallet to pallet. However all developing lengths in the production of the grades are included. To minimize the cost of handling it is also to the advantage of the manufacturer to ship the maximum amount of long lengths that can develop in each grade. |
